PARISH MUSICIANS' PRAYER

Heavenly Father, as parish musicians, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks.

We are grateful for all those in the past who have taught us to hope for salvation.

We are grateful for the psalms, which teach us how to acknowledge your greatness.

We are grateful, most of all, that in the fullness of time you sent your only Son to be our Savior. In Him you told us as much about yourself as our poor human intellects could grasp. In Him you gave us everything that is good.

We are grateful for his dying and rising which destroyed death and restored life for us.

We are grateful for the memorial of his dying and rising which he asked us to celebrate until he comes again.

We are grateful that you sent us the Spirit to make our church a community of believers who live and celebrate the Christ-Event.

We are grateful for weekly and daily opportunities to proclaim your goodness and thank you through the same Jesus Christ.

We are grateful, finally, that you showered us with special gifts so that we can sing your praises.

Deeply aware of your gifts in the past we confidently look to your continued generosity in the present and in the future.

Therefore, we pray that our songs may always be prayers, helping to gather all who share the bread and wine with us into the one body of Christ

We pray also that, as ministers of music, we may truly minister to your people, putting a song on their lips and bringing joy to their hearts. Make us "leaders who serve and servants who lead."

We ask you to lead us to the heavenly kingdom where we shall sing your praises in the company of the saints and through the same Jesus Christ.

We pray that our lives, like our worship, may become an unending doxology, giving you, almighty Father, all glory and honor through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ  in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
